We are moving to North Carolina from Maryland. Yay, it only took us 15 years to finally take the leap. Now what? We sold our house. That part was easy, now we need a job for the husband. Also, we are not sure where in NC is best for us. We vacation on the Outer Banks each year, but don't think that is the best place to find steady work. My husband is a maintenance mechanic in a large factory and has been at the same place for the past 20 years. He can also do home repairs and is quite handy. We have a teenage son who wants to live near the ocean, we do also. We are looking at New Bern, Beaufort, Morehead City, Wilmington, or somethink near the coast. Help pleae. If you live in NC and know someone who is hiring, let me know. If you think your neck of the woods is a great place for us to settle, let me know. We have seen a lot of very nice houses in the New Bern area, but can't make a offer on anything until employment is established. Most of all, I need your prayers. Thank you all so much. Marie
I just found out that my husband is getting the last half of next week off work. We'd been wanting to visit OBX, but I'd made no plans to do so because I didn't know we'd have vacation time any time soon.
I'm wondering if any of you know of an affordable place that would likely do last minute rentals. It's just my husband, me and our five year old daughter, so we wouldn't need one of those eight bedroom cottages I keep finding when I search for accomdations online. D:
Please let me know if you have any info that could help. Thank you!
Passing this info on... Art's Place is a "must-eat" place on our list every year and Art &Bill have always been very very kind.
I am a family member of local business owners Art Glidden and Bill Askew of Art’s Place in Kitty Hawk, NC. Tragically, the restaurant was badly damaged in a fire late last week and the business has had to suspend until repairs can be made. In the meantime, they have lost their livelihood and a source of funding for the Christmas Joy Fund, which they have run for more than two decades. In an effort to get them back on their feet quickly and keep the Joy Fund growing, several community members are planning fund raisers for the next two weekends. We’re calling on the community to come together and give support to these two big-hearted men who have given so much to the community for many, many years.
There are two fundraisers occurring:
Friday July 14 at 3pm, there will be a Backyard BBQ in the backyard of Art’s Place restaurant at MP 2.5 on the Beach Road in Kitty Hawk. Plates are by donation (min $5 suggested) and will include a choice of hamburger, hot dog or NC BBQ sandwich, with chips, a side and a drink. Their will be live music and beer available for purchase. Raffle tickets will be sold or a raffle to be held the following weekend for a range of items as well.
Friday and Saturday, July 21-22 from 10am-4pm there will be a large Yard Sale with music and other fun held in the parking lot of Kitty Hawk WalMart. Items available for sale will include furniture, household goods, clothing, and much much more. This will be huge! Everyone is invited to come down to WalMart and support our neighbors. The sale is cash and carry so everyone is encouraged to bring their trucks and trailers with them! We will hold a raffle on Saturday, July 22, for items to be announced shortly. Ticket holders need not be present to win.
Donations are being sought for the following:
--food and supplies for the BBQ on Friday July 14, please call for updated list of what is needed
--people to help us set up, run the events and clean up, for both weekends
--donated goods to be included in the yard sale event on July 21-22
--Items to include in the raffle
--Your time and your help in any way you can!
There are 3 ways to let us know you want to help---Contact Brandi at 252-202-1353, Drop donated goods off at Art’s Place, or just come on down to eat, shop or pitch in!
I am hoping there is some way you might be able to include the above announcements in your paper, either online or print, to get the word out about these events. Art and Bill have given so much to our community; supporting local law enforcement and firemen, spreading smiles to children and families during the holidays through the Christmas Joy Fund, raising their families on the Outer Banks, providing a wonderful landmark which visitors and locals alike remember fondly and forever. Help us get them back on their feet!
See you there
Hey there. I visited the obx with my guy who lives there a few weeks ago. It's really pretty and I'm planning on moving there, so I can be closer to him. Does anyone know of anywhere online I can see apparment rentals, or the like?
He's in Kill Devil Hills, but I'm ok living somewhere else, being everything is so close to begin with :)
As I posted previously I am getting married on June 3rd in Corolla. I am not from the area but I had planned on getting Seamark to make my wedding cake as they provide catering as well.
I inquire about my cake and I am told that they no longer provide wedding cakes. YIKES!!
I did a search...and only came up with one cake decorator in the area...CakesbyRobin....in which for the size and type of wedding I am having 300 for 30 people plus 100 delivery and set up is a bit much.
Does anyone know somewhere in the area that is reasonable?
